Apologies for absence were received from Councillor Bloch, who was substituted for by Councillor Winskill.

34.

Declarations of Interest

A member with a personal interest in a matter who attends a meeting of the authority at which the matter is considered must disclose to that meeting the existence and nature of that interest at the commencement of that consideration, or when the interest becomes apparent.

 

A member with a personal interest in a matter also has a prejudicial interest in that matter if the interest is one which a member of the public with knowledge of the relevant facts would reasonably regard as so significant that it is likely to prejudice the member's judgment of the public interest and if this interest affects their financial position or the financial position of a person or body as described in paragraph 8 of the Code of Conduct and/or if it relates to the determining of any approval, consent, licence, permission or registration in relation to them or any person or body described in paragraph 8 of the Code of Conduct.

Councillor Khan declared a personal interest by nature of being a Member of the Pensions Committee.

Exclusion of Press and Public

The following items are likely to be the subject of a motion to exclude the press and public from the meeting as they contain information classified as exempt under the Local Government Act 1985 in that they contain information relating to a particular employee.

Minutes:

The following item was subject to a motion to exclude the press and public, as the report contained information classified as exempt under Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972.  It contained information related to an individual and also contained information for which a claim of legal privilege could be maintained in legal proceedings.

36.

Termination of Employment of Employee and Release of Pension Benefits

(Report of the Director of Corporate Resources)  To seek approval for the release of pension benefits for an employee, to inform Members of the business case for termination on the grounds of efficiency, and to outline the other elements of a proposed severance package.

 

In accordance with Standing Order 32.6, no other business shall be considered.

Minutes:

The committee received a report seeking approval for the release of pension benefits for an employee, informing them of the business case for termination on the grounds of efficiency, and outlining other elements of a proposed severance package.

 

In agreeing the recommendations in the report, Members required that a report be produced outlining lessons learned from the case, including appropriate independent oversight from other Senior Officers in the Council where appropriate.

 

 

RESOLVED:

 

  1. That the recommendations of the report be agreed.

 

  1. That the Chief Executive of the Council produce a report to the full committee on lessons learned from  this case, together with any recommendations on changes that should be made.
