Decision type: Key
Decision status: For Determination
Notice of proposed decision first published: 04/04/2025
This decision will be taken under urgency procedures.
Reason for urgency:
The Local Authority has been working to a very compressed statutory timeline to ensure final outcome on the future of Tiverton Primary School by the end of the academic year. Failure to secure a Lead Member sign off before the statutory HR consultation with school staff begins on 22 April 2025 risks causing a financial burden on the Council’s General Fund because the staff consultation will be delayed - if we don’t get school staff on notice in time we will need to pay them for the remaining 4 months (September – December 2025) with no school open and children to teach.
Anticipated restriction: Public -
Decision due: 14 Apr 2025 by Cabinet Member Signing
The report sets out the result of the statutory representation period on the proposal to close Tiverton Primary School. There were no objections or comments received during the 28-representation period (24 February -28 March 2025). The Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families is therefore recommended to approve the proposal to discontinue the school from 31 August 2025 with displaced pupils transferring to other local schools.
