A general duty is placed on Local Authorities to promote the use of Sustainable Modes of Travel and Transport. There are four main elements to the duty; an assessment of travel and transport needs, audit of infrastructure, strategy to develop transport infrastructure and the promotion of sustainable travel and transport modes. The main emphasis of this document is on Sustainable Modes of Travel to school linking into School Travel Plans.

Consultation process
Consultation has been arranged for 11th December 2008. There will be an opportunity for anyone to provide additional comments after this day. Any comments/suggestions made within the context of sustainable travel will be reflected in the final strategy. Consultation will take place with all affected persons working within the realm of Children and Young Peoples Service, Urban Environment, local schools and some external parties
