Haringey Council reduced the speed limit on both roads from
30mph to 20mph, but the change has yet to deliver any clear
benefits. There’s been no noticeable improvement in traffic
flow or safety; instead, vehicles are moving more slowly, and
congestion appears to have worsened.
Additionally, when descending Muswell Hill, maintaining such a low
speed makes it nearly impossible to rely on engine braking. Drivers
are forced to use their brakes continuously, increasing the risk of
them overheating and becoming less effective by the time they reach
the traffic lights at the bottom
