The report also sought approval of the revised Local Code of Corporate Governance and agreement that it should be recommended that Council adopt the revised code at its meeting on 15 July 2013.

RESOLVED:

That the revised Local Code of Corporate Governance, as set out in the Appendix to the report, be approved and that its adoption be recommended to Council on 15 July 2013.

Alternative Options Considered

The adoption of a Local Code of Corporate Governance is not an express statutory function and there is no legal requirement for such a Code to be adopted. However, it is recommended as proper practice by the Department for Communities and Local Government that a local code is adopted.

Reasons for Decision

Adopting and maintaining the Haringey Local Code of Corporate Governance assists the Council to discharge its accountability for the proper conduct of business. The review of corporate governance is integral to the integrity of the Council and its decision making processes.
