Decision:

Having considered the proposals, the responses to the statutory consultation and officer comments,
• approved to proceed with Implementation of 32 new cycle storage (cycle hangar) facilities at the proposed locations detailed in Table 1 of section 6.
• approved not to proceed with the installations of Bike hangars at the proposed location for 29/31 Alexandra Park Road N10, Ashfield Road, N4, Elsden Road, N17, Ferme Park road N4, Gladwell Road, N8, Grasmere Road N10, Harold Road N8 and 107 Hewitt Road, N8, for the reasons set out in section 4.6 of this report.
• approve the total estimated implementation cost of £154,46.00 which includes consultation, inventory survey, design, traffic management orders, supply, and installation of the cycle hangars. This is from the £487k approved budget for the implementation of the Cycle Parking Programme for year 2024/2025.

Reasons for the decision:

Encouraging more people to cycle is an important part of the central Government and Haringey council policy to tackle traffic congestion, improve air quality, promote physical activity, and improve accessibility. However, many residents, particularly those who live in flats, find it difficult to keep bicycles at home due to a lack of storage space. The Council, therefore, has a rolling programme to provide more secure cycle storage (cycle hangars) on the street for residents' use.

As part of this year's cycle parking programme, we are proposing to install cycle hangars at various locations in the borough listed. Locations for proposed cycle hangars have been progressed based on requests received from residents.

Alternative options considered:

An alternative considered was to 'not' undertake the requested introduction of new cycle hangers. However, this is not recommended as it would be against the Council's commitment to providing more secure cycle storage facilities (cycle hangars) on the street for residents' use.
