Decision:

For the Assistant Director of Regeneration and Economic Development to approve the implementation of Contract Standing Order 9.07 .1c. and award a contract to McArdle Sports Tech Ltd to undertake works to build the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) as per submitted designs. The specific works are expected to be for a total period of sixteen weeks (16) weeks from the end of October 2024 with the wider works completing by Spring 2025 and public opening expected to be by May 2025. The total contract value is up to £333,260.

Reasons for the decision:

Following the Football Foundation’s compliant procurement process, McArdle Sports Tech Ltd. have been awarded the contract to deliver all works in the London area and it is a provision of the grant for Haringey. Therefore, Haringey have joined the Football Foundation’s framework through an additional client joining agreement.

We have been awarded a grant of up to £249,945 from the Football Foundation Playzone fund which, together with match funding, will enable the implementation of a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) within Wood Green Common.

Noel Park Ward has a deficit in sports and recreational facilities and the MUGA has been the most asked for feature during consultation and engagement surrounding Wood Green Common.

Alternative options considered:

Do nothing: Rejected, as not accepting the grant would result in loss of up to £249,945 of partnership funding for the Wood Green Common scheme. This would prevent the planned improvements from taking place, which have been devised with residents, schools, Ward Councillors and local stakeholders, who now have raised expectations.

Use the money for something else: Rejected, as the grant offer is ringfenced for a new MUGA at Wood Green Common.
