Request for implementation of Standing Order 10.02a

Decision Maker: Director for Adult Social Services

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

Approve the implementation of Contract Standing Order 10.02.1a and extend the contract with Whittington health for a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for a period of 7 months backdated from 1 September 2017 to 31 March 2018 at a cost of £85,428 with a total contract value of £223,258

Reasons for the decision:

The multi-disciplinary team, composed of a part time team manager, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, rehab assistant, part time pharmacist and social worker, support Haringey's bed based intermediate care and recent reviews of Haringey's intermediate care services show that the MDT are critical to the effectiveness of the service. The team manager and social worker are provided under separate arrangements.

The initial delegated authority covered the team from August 2016 to August 2017 as part of the wider intermediate care pilot. This extension until March is to allow time to determine the long term future of the MDT, including operational and line management arrangements of the team to strengthen accountability and governance, which is being considered following the findings of the Haringey and Islington bed audit.

Alternative options considered:

Do nothing - this would result in no support to the bed based provision and result in bed blocking and limit the effectiveness of the service. Recent reviews have demonstrated that the MDT is key to the effectiveness of the service.
