Decision details

The report is seeking approval to enter into a grant with the GLA as part of the Grow Back Greener Fund for £25,000 in partnership with local community gardening group GrwoN22 C.I.C.

Decision Maker: Assistant Director for Regeneration and Economic Development

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

That the Assistant Director for Regeneration and Economic Development approves entering into the Grow Back Greener Fund grant agreement with the GLA for £25,000.

Reasons for the decision:

Wood Green is an Air Quality Focus Area (location that not only exceeds the EU annual mean limit value for NO2 but also a location with high human exposure). Wood Green suffers significantly from poor air quality as a consequence of motor vehicle dominance, open space deficiency and streets dominated by narrow pavements, parked cars and very wide roads with few dedicated cycle lanes and places to play and rest. The implementation of the parklet will re-purpose an existing area of carriageway to create an area that tackles traffic dominance and improves green infrastructure and air quality.

The project is supported by Haringey Council, GrowN22, Haringey Living Streets and Haringey Cycling Campaign.

The development of parklet is a key item within the Wood Green Project Bank.

Alternative options considered:

The alternative option would be to not enter into the grant and risk losing the funding from the GLA.
