Additional Information

Originally a journalist, I’ve worked in public relations and communications for many years, including stints at the GLA and the National Offender Management Service. Over the years I’ve served on the national executive of the National Union of Journalists and as a school governor. I’m currently chair of governors at a large local comprehensive secondary school. I’ve lived in Haringey for more than 20 years and was proud to be elected in October 2014 in Woodside following the sad death of Cllr Pat Egan who is much missed. If I can be half as good a councillor as Pat was I will be doing well.

I have particular interests in educational opportunity, addressing the inequalities which still mar the system, and in working together with our communities and other agencies and organisations to tackle social exclusion.

I am currently Chair of the council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which has an important role both in overseeing the performance of the council, local NHS and other agencies, but also in helping develop policy and strategy, working with our communities, so that we can move forward positively even in difficult times and in the face of unprecedented reductions in government funding.
