Additional Information

I was Mayor of Haringey for the municipal year 2015 – 16 when I took over the chains of office from Cllr Kaushika Amin at the annual meeting of the council on 14 May 2015.

I was elected Councillor for Hornsey Ward in May 2014 and served on the Adult Health & Scrutiny Panel and the board of Alexandra Palace and Park from May 2014 until I became Mayor.

I grew up in Bow in what is now the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and went to school in Bethnal Green and Hackney.

I was a primary school teacher from 1971 until 1996 and taught in three London boroughs including Haringey. I went on to work in Further Education and then worked for the TUC until December 2013.

I have lived in Haringey since April 1973. We live in Hornsey and our son Kevin and daughter Clare grew up here.

I enjoy novels and am a member of a book group. I enjoy  going to concerts mainly classical music and usually go to lots  of Prom concerts. I enjoy watching football,  particularly the club we all support at home, the Arsenal and I do also like to keep an eye on how Tottenham Hotspur are doing as well.

I am concerned about homelessness and my charity during my Mayoral year was All People All Places which is based in Hornsey.
