Fortis Green Traffic Calming and Safety

We the undersigned petition the council to Traffic calming measures to slow traffic down and improve lighting at Zebra Crossing.

Fortis Green is a busy thoroughfare where cars, buses and lorries travel at speed. Apart from commuter pedestrians there are local school children, dog walkers and elderly people walking along this road which connects Muswell Hill and East Finchley. The speed limit is 30 mph even though most of the borough has a 20 mph limit. Drivers are taking advantage of the straight road and driving at an unacceptable speed during the day and particularly at night. It is particularly treacherous when it is raining or icy. We suggest that calming measures are installed. Cameras, which would potentially generate extra funds for the Council, flashing speed warning lights and other simple solutions would be very effective. The lighting around the zebra crossing near the Muswell Hill end of Twyford Avenue is very poor whereas the lighting around the crossing on Tetherdown is effective. We would like the crossing upgraded to that standard. The residents of Fortis Green are concerned that if something is not done soon there will a fatal accident. Already people have been knocked down on this crossing.
