The NLWA and seven constituent boroughs are seeking to sign up to a legally binding Inter Authority Agreement (IAA) by June 2011 in order for the NLWA procurement of waste disposal and treatment facilities to progress. The IAA will contain commitments from boroughs on key waste policies.

Consultation process
The North London Joint Waste Strategy (the joint strategy for the north London boroughs and the NLWA), which sets out how the partners will manage waste from households and businesses in the area until 2020, contains targets on recycling and waste reduction that underpin the procurement of new waste management services. The draft strategy was subject to public consultation in 2008 and amended as a result. A consultation with statutory agencies was also undertaken at this time.

SLT date: An Equalities Impact Assessment was carried out on the North London Joint Waste Strategy in 2008. Furthermore, equalities and diversity implications of the new services will be considered by the NLWA procurement process through the competitive dialogue and assessment of tenders as well as through the appraisal of options under the IAA by the Council.
