Welcome and Opening Remarks from the Chair - Cllr Gina Adamou

Minutes:

Ward Councillors introduced themselves. GA outlined the structure of the meeting and the nature of the workshops.

2.

Surveys - Impact of Post Offices Closure & Haringey’s New Transport Strategy (Local Implementation Plan)

Minutes:

a) Impact –Post Offices Closure 

b) Haringey’s New Transport Strategy (Local Implementation Plan)

 

DM introduced both the Post Office Closure and the New Transport Strategy surveys. It was noted that there was an opportunity to talk about this with officers during the break in the meeting.

 

3.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams – up dates

Minutes:

Sgts Hannah and Clay Michael offered an update on what has been happening in the safer neighbourhood teams, including:

 

·         Self Defence Classes

·         Clean up of neglected areas

·         Operation to decrease the impact of prostitution

·         Burglary reduction methods

·         Immobilise project

·         Fly-Tipping & Dumping

 

Questions were taken from the floor:

 

  • Recent Rape cases: No available information at present
  • Rough Sleepers & Security around Culvert Rd was raised.
  • A specific burglary and slow response to it was raised by a resident. TH asked to speak in more detail after the meeting. GA seconded this.
  • An outline about the gating at Helston Court was given showing resistance to it despite increases in security.

The alcohol ban area has been extended in seven sisters and is being enforced. A map of this area was offered to residents

4.

Future Arrangements for Area Assemblies

Minutes:

DM noted the 13 key points about Area Assemblies outlined at the last meeting. DM then explained the nature of the four workshops arising from these key points.

 

Dm also reported that the outcomes from the workshops would be feed back to the wider review being carried out in respect of Area Assemblies.

 

Feedback from each workshop was given by representatives of each group after being recorded by group leaders. The feedback sheets were collected in.

Making The Difference 2010/11

The community expressed their preference to projects submitted under this year’s Making The Difference

Cabinet Question Time

Minutes:

Questions were distributed between the two cabinet Members:

 

Cllr Lorna Reith

Concerns about Homes for Haringey were raised. LR noted that there was guidance for grievances available and that specific cases need to be outlined to be dealt with.

 

A questions concerning WiFi coverage in the borough was raised. LR noted that we followed Central Government policy.

 

Concerns were aired by residents about cuts in the Area Based Grant. LR outlined that this is indeed a difficult time and that a priority is to be as efficient as possible.

 

A written question was submitted - Please can you update us on fair funding for our children?

 

LR responded by saying that a campaign has been conducted to increase the funding per child as the Borough receives less per child than Hackney and Islington. We have formulated an argument against this.

 

Cllr Nilgun Canver

 

A written questions was submitted - In the light of likely cuts to Council Services, will the Council commit to the preservation of the “Make a Difference” grants given the positive “hidden” benefits they provide.?

 

NC outlined that the “Make a Difference” campaign has been judged to be effective and important however a different, more efficient, way of running it will be needed.

 

There was a complaint about planning applications not being available to view online. WL is to look into this.

 

A question about security in Haringey Park was asked. NC outlined the roles being played by park officers as well as the day to day coverage of SNT’s.

 

The Consultation on Core Strategy was raised. The document is in its statutory consultation period which preceded by informal consultations.

 

A question about there being too many bids for the Make the Difference grant was raised. GA noted that this was difficult to avoid as we are not in a position to turn bids away.  

 

7.

Soap Box

Minutes:

Mario Petrou  outlined a number of local democracy  initiatives to attendees including a meeting at the Salisbury pub to improve local democracy
